Foodie Faves: Chic At Catch

Hey loves! I would like to welcome Alexandria Brooks, a new contributor to The City & Thrift.  She is currently a Journalism undergrad living in New Jersey, and was featured as a contestant on Food Network’s Chopped a couple years ago (so cool right?).  Here’s Alexandria review of Catch, located in the Meatpacking District of NYC.  One of my favorite things about NYC is the food! The city is full of chefs ready to bring something new and exciting to the restaurant scene. Catch serves a variety of different seafood dishes from sushi to lobster mac and cheese. I recently went there for lunch with my mom for the first time. Upon entering the restaurant, we were led down a dark hallway to a backdrop of subtle music with lit candles providing a hint of light. We encountered an elevator that takes you to either the indoor restaurant on the second floor, which is under renovation or the rooftop on the fourth floor, our only option. The dark, mysterious vibe of the hallway and the …

I’m Back!

Hello lovely followers, Wow! I cannot believe I haven’t posted since July. Phew. That’s a long time to be away from my creative brainchild, The City & Thrift. Despite me leaving my blog to fend for itself in this blogging jungle, I have been putting my creative efforts elsewhere. As a college Senior, I am currently passing my time taking classes and working as a Beauty and Lifestyle intern at Martha Stewart Living and Martha Stewart Weddings. With almost two months into the job, I can truly say I love it. I have little knowledge in the beauty industry, but am learning as I go along. Whether it’s researching the latest beauty trend, checking in samples, or writing articles for the web, I can say I’m learning the industry inside out and out. Now as I have learned some of the ropes, I am getting the opportunity to go to press events alone, and work on desk sides with beauty brands. It’s been a blast so far, and luckily for you and me, I am …

Weekly Wrap Up: The Met and Chet Faker

Sorry this is a late post but better late than never! Last week was hectic as school is winding down and finals are approaching (as is this week). As I made my schedule for Senior year, I also made sure to make time for myself. My friend and I went to see Chet Faker and XXYYXX at Terminal 5. The whole concert was amazing and the transitions in between Chet’s songs were so smooth that I didn’t even notice the songs were changing. Later in the week, I ventured to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for a class assignment. I had never been to the museum before, but I am so incredibly happy I went. I started in the Ancient Egyptian gallery, and was overwhelmed by the immense amounts of art scattered around the room. There was so many to see that I almost started to get dizzy from looking around and walking, making sure my eyes caught a glimpse of every little thing. My favorite part of the museum though was definitely the European painting …

Weekly Wrap Up: New York Fashion Week 15′

This weekend, I had the opportunity to work NYFW 15′ with a hip public relations and communications company. I met many other awesome interns, and was able to observe two runway shows for the first time. The first show was menswear by Asaf Ganot, and the second was womenswear by Giulietta New York. The whole experience was one to remember!         I hope to go back to next season’s New York Fashion Week, and experience different brands and shows!   Stay stylish, Nicole

Weekly Wrap Up: Hauls and Halls

This week, I’ve been soaking up the last bits of winter break and watched a ton of tv in my pajamas because I could! Despite my extra dose of laziness, I ended up doing some fun activities these week including going to see Wicked on Broadway and doing a haul. This is only the second play I’ve seen so far, but I can honestly say it will be my favorite. The special effects, acting, and story were just so amazing. This is a must-see for any Wizard of Oz fan! I did a quick beauty haul featuring products from Target, and was disappointed they didn’t have the NYX matte lip cream I wanted! Better luck next time I suppose! My favorite product I brought was Doutzen Kroes X L’Oreal Paris’s nail polish in Nude 600. It’s the pinkish mauve color and is absolutely to die for. I’m in the process of trying the other products, so stay tuned! My favorite outfit of the week is this one. I paired a chunky cream scarf (not shown) with my A.P.C perforated …
